After the success of our previous workshop series, we’re back with more free online skill-building webinars for early-career researchers in the field of zoology. For the theme of this workshop, we’re buckling down on Statistics for Zoologists: Analytical Insights and Practical Applications!

This workshop aims to provide insight into common mistakes, get deeper into their explanation, propose solutions, and present specific data treatments and models often used in zoology.

– 14:00 – 14:10: Welcome and presentation of the Young Zoologists Group
– 14:10 – 15:30: Prof. Laurent Loosveldt “Statistics from a probability perspective: tricks and traps”
– 15:30 – 15:40: Break
– 15:40 – 17:30: Prof. Geert Verbeke “Issues related to the design of the study and the interpretation of statistical results”
– 17:30 – 17:40: Mr. Xavier Raick “A quick introduction to GAMs for studying animal cycles”

12th December 2023
– 14:00 – 14:10: Presentation of the Royal Belgian Zoological Society by the president, Prof. Frédéric Silvestre (UNamur)
– 14:10 – 15:30: Prof. Arnout Van Messem “Statistical power and related biases”
– 15:30 – 15:40: Break
– 15:40 – 17:40: Prof. Damien Olivier “Useful for ecology: dissimilarity, clustering, and unconstrained ordination (NMDS, PCoA, PCA, and CA)”

This workshop is free and will be held online but registration is mandatory.
